Competition Jewellery: How to Choose What's Right for You
Choosing your competition jewellery should be one of the more enjoyable parts of show prep. But for a lot of competitors — especially first timers — it can become a source of stress and overwhelm that gets left to the last minute.
Having helped thousands of both pros and amateurs perfect their stage look, here's what we'd tell you. Not rules — just honest recommendations based on years of watching what works on stage and what doesn't.
First — stay true to yourself
Before anything else, this is worth saying. Your jewellery should feel like you.
If big, statement pieces don't feel like your style — if they make you feel uncomfortable or overdressed — don't wear them just because you've seen someone else pull it off on stage. If you don't feel comfortable and confident in your choices, it will show in your performance and your overall look.
A more refined, minimal approach done with confidence will always outperform a statement look that doesn't feel authentic to you. There's no single right answer here — the right jewellery is the jewellery that makes you feel like the best version of yourself on stage.
Step 1 — Choose your crystal type
This comes down to your bikini.
Regular diamanté (silver) is the most versatile option and works with the majority of bikini designs. If your bikini has silver connectors, or no connectors at all, this is almost always your starting point. It's also the most common crystal type seen on stage across UK federations.
AB diamanté reflects light in multiple colours — you'll see a rainbow-like effect under stage lighting. If your bikini has AB crystals in the design, AB jewellery is the natural match. If you're unsure what crystals your bikini maker has used, check with them before you order.
Gold diamanté isn't seen as often on stage, but it works — particularly for diva, fitness and fashion-style federations and categories. If your bikini has gold connectors or a warmer overall aesthetic it's worth considering. It's less common on an IFBB or NPC stage but can work across a wide range of UK federations depending on your look.
Gold AB combines the gold setting with AB crystals — same guidance as above, but with the added multi-colour shimmer of AB.

Step 2 — Choose your earring length
Once you know your crystal type, earring length is the next decision — and one of the most commonly misjudged. Getting this right before you look at anything else reduces the number of choices you're making at once.
The key measurement is from your earlobe to your shoulder line — your earring shouldn't go beyond that point. We've written a full guide on how to measure this properly and why it matters. Read it here.
Beyond length, your hair plays a big role. Longer, thicker hair can carry a more statement earring. Shorter or thinner hair often works better with a slightly simpler style where the earring can be seen clearly. Read more on how your hair affects your jewellery choices here.
Step 3 — How much should you wear?
There's no hard rule — it really does depend on the person, the category, and what feels right for you. But if you're unsure where to start, a good baseline is: one pair of earrings, two bracelets, and one ring. That gives you enough sparkle to read well under stage lighting without overdoing it. You can always build from there once you've got a feel for what works for you on stage.
Rings
Rings are optional — but more often than not they really do complete the look. The reason we stock such a wide range, from minimal single-row styles through to more statement pieces, is because the right ring pulls the whole package together in a way that's hard to describe until you see it on stage.
If you're unsure whether to bother, the honest answer is: try it. A simple ring is low risk and the difference on stage is usually worth it.
Bracelets
This is where personal preference really comes into play, because bracelet choice is more dependent on your individual proportions than any other piece.
As a general guide — if you're petite or competing in wellness where a fuller look is the goal, chunkier and thicker bracelets can work well and add presence. If you're in bikini with a leaner, more linear physique, thinner pieces often sit more elegantly and don't overpower the look.
But this is genuinely one of those areas where a conversation is more useful than a blog. If you're unsure which bracelet suits you best, drop us a DM on Instagram or send us an email with the following:
What does your bikini look like? Connectors, crystal type (AB or regular), colour
The measurement between your earlobe and your shoulder line
What shoes do you have — plain or diamanté?
How will you wear your hair? Straight, curly, wavy — and is it long, short, thick or thin?
With that we can give you a specific recommendation rather than a general one.
